La Traviata launches WNO’s new season

The Welsh National Opera kicks off its 2009/10 season with a stunning and detailed new staging of Verdi’s operatic classic, La Traviata.
La Traviata is the riveting tale of 19th-century Parisian courtesan Violetta Valèry and the conflicting passions of love and family honour and features some of Verdi’s most popular music.
Violetta dreams of a better life, and Alfredo Germont may be the man to provide her with the happy ending her story deserves. However, rigid social conventions ultimately deny her the salvation she craves.
The cast of this operatic tragedy includes Myrto Papantanasiu as Violetta and Alfie Boe as Alfredo.
Performances will take place in The Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre on September 12, 14, 18, 29 and October 1 and 3. All performances start at 7.15pm and tickets cost between from £5 to £37.50.
The production, supported by the Helena Oldacre Trust, will also feature free pre-performance talks on September 29 and October 1 and 3 which must be booked in advance. Times of talks may vary so check with the ticket office.
