A new album, a starring West End role in Les Miserables… suddenly it’s all go for Alfie Boe
The dramatic opera tenor Alfie Boe has signed a deal to play the lead role of Jean Valjean in the West End production of Les Miserables which, in turn, could lead to a more lasting connection to the landmark musical.
Cameron Mackintosh revealed yesterday that the singer will begin performances at the Queen’s Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue in early June for a six-month run.

I have not heard a singer of this quality for a long, long time. Please may we hear much more of him.

a serious singer in her own right!
Just watched Les Mis 25 year anniversary DVD which I bought my husband for Christmas. Have to say that your performance was incredible. Fantastic voice and the songs are wonderful, absolutely spell-binding. We saw the show about 10 years ago when we lived in the UK and enjoyed hearing all the songs again. We loved it – thank you.
Saw the show in London last year, and will be seeing it again in 2011. The best part will be Alfie in the lead roll. The anniversary show was amazing, so can’t wait to see it live once more.
Alfie’s performance at the 25th anniversary was breath-taking! The definite highlight. Congratulations for your new role and I’m glad things are looking up for you as you certainly deserve it. I shall keep an eye on the cast list and I haven’t actually seen the West End workings of Les Mis but I shall try and wait until you carry the title role to watch as then, I’ll be certain that my money shall meet its worth with the lead.
Regards and care always.
Just watched the 25th Anniversary of Les Mis – Alfie Boe is amazing. Such a brilliant voice. Have seen the show five times and will be seeing it again in June. Can’t wait! Thanks!
You are fantastic! I went to the 25th Anniversary concert of Les Mis at the O2 and was mesmerised by your performance. Thank you so much for the gift of your wonderful voice – it has brought me a lot of joy!
