Alfie Boe signs to Decca Records and announces new album… ‘Bring Him Home’

Decca Records is delighted to announce the signing of British tenor Alfie Boe to the prestigious record label. As part of Universal Music, the world’s leading record company, the singer will join a roster of stars such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse and U2. Alfie returned to his home town of Blackpool to sign the record deal (see attached pic) at the famous Blackpool Tower.

It was in Blackpool that the teenage Alfie was an apprentice car mechanic at a sports car factory. Having discovered opera at a young age from listening to his father’s records, Alfie would often sing to entertain his colleagues. One day he was overheard by a customer who was so impressed he suggested Boe should go to London and audition for the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. Over thousands of hopefuls Alfie landed the job.

Alfie went on to study at The Royal College of Music and then The Royal Opera House but it was there that he received a call that changed his plans. It was none other than Baz Luhrmann who, after spending two years looking for one of the main leads for his controversial production of Puccini’s La Boheme, approached Alfie for the role.
“We came to London to hear a young tenor called Alfie Boe who turned out to be absolutely extraordinary.” – Baz Luhrmann

This year has been especially eventful for Alfie: taking the lead role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables at The Queens Theatre for 11 performances led on to two performances heading the cast in Cameron Mackintosh’s 25th Anniversary celebration of Les Mis at London’s 02 Arena. This momentous occasion has been captured on DVD and is to be released 29th Nov. Alfie is also going to appear as Jean Valjean in The Royal Variety Performance, to be broadcast on BBC1 on 16th December. In what will be the main event of the night, the tenor leads the cast in a selection of numbers from the musical.

Saving the best till last, Alfie will bring a hugely successful year to a close with the release of his new album – his finest to date – ‘Bring Him Home’, released on 27th December. He delivers a wonderful selection of many of the greatest of all show tunes, from such Rodgers & Hammerstein evergreens as Some Enchanted Evening and If I Loved You through to more recent winners from Sunset Boulevard, Moulin Rouge and, of course, Les Miserables. With Alfie Boe’s ringing tenor voice, the magic of the musical has never sounded more enchanting.

“Alfie is a great, strapping, manly operatic tenor. A truly great artist.” – Cameron Mackintosh
