Alfie not performing tonight & tomorrow (19th and 20th July 2011)

Alfie saw the Doctor at 1230 this morning, who has unfortunately told him to rest for 48 hours. He has pharyngitis – his vocal chord is fine but quite inflamed, which is probably from having not rested properly after his previous infection. The Doctor has prescribed tablets, but he said Alfie needs 48 hours, no singing, just total vocal rest. Therefore, and with great regret, we need Alfie to take out tonight and tomorrow. Alfie apologises profusely to everyone, but he needs to rest so that no long term damage is done to his voice.

Best regards

Neil

  • Alfie – Is there anything we can do to convince you to take better care of yourself? Listen to Sarah and your mum! And to all of us, who love you as well. Thank you so very, very much for resting now.

  • I’m very glad you visited the Doctor! I know how hard it is to do that – thinking that everything will be okay, but you are in a very physically demanding role playing a blinder as Jean Valjean – and then you do so much more above and beyond that. Alfie, you have become a very important part of all of our lives – not just because you are a music maker, but because of who you are as a person. God moves in mysterious ways, and when He wants you to take it easy, He will knock you FLAT (no pun intended – well, maybe!). One day at a time – spend the next couple days on Hushabye Mountain, and you will be good to go in no time! We all want you around for a long, long time, happy and healthy!

Remember, a Baby Ruth will hurt your throat, but a nice, smooth, silky all-by-itself chocolate bar will work wonders!

Sending (((HUGS))) and warm thoughts to you!

  • Oh Alfie, our Alfie… You are in the circle of love and all we your fans want is you to be healthy. I couldn’t even imagine a world without you and your voice. As you read these heart felt messages, hold them close to your heart. Now,go and hold your precious Sara and Grace close to you while you recuperate. Hugs and Love, Sally from Northern CA

  • So sorry that you’re not feeling well. Please take ALL the time needed to get completely well. Your voice is not something to play around with Mister!! We need you good and strong for a long, long, long, long time to come!! Your health and well being is top priority! I know it’s hard to miss performances, but REST is what you need and REST is what you must do!!!! Doctor’s orders remember?? Please know that we wish you only the best and we’ll be here when you return! Take care of yourself and hope you feel better real soon!

  • Dear Niel & Alfie, Please care for your body from this as well, Health is the first!
We are hoping to get the rest which Alfie is enough for cordially.

  • Alfie, you goof! When I heard about the infection, and your returning after only a day, worried that was a little fast. We’ll wait. We hope to hear that voice for the next twenty years — what’s a couple more days?

“…total vocal rest.” Does that mean you’re not supposed to talk either? LOL Somehow the image of you with a chalkboard looking both annoyed and with that silly grin… Take a nap with Grace. Maybe take everyone out to a movie. A little mental rest is as important as physical rest. Get well.

  • love and hugs to you Alfie!
I have had that once before and it’s not fun. although my co-workers at the time thought it was. They wanted to dress me up like Minnie Mouse because that’s exactly who I sounded like! Please take care of you. I said it before, there is only one you and you must take care of the only you that you’ve got! All of us Arrows, Roses, Tweeps and such aren’t going anywhere. We just want you to get better COMPLETELY. I’m sure your Sarah and Grace want the same thing for you. I hope that by doing what you’re told that your recovery will be a quick one and that you’ll be back in action in no time flat! Enjoy your time off and have some fun with Grace and Sarah while you’re at it. I’ll be praying for a quick healing for you my friend!
    love, hugs, & prayers,
    barb

  • We love you so much, Alfie. Please take your time and get well properly. We are not going anywhere. We will wait for you for as long as it takes. We only want what’s best for you. Your health is paramount and should be looked after at all times.

God bless you and get well soon.

  • Wow, where do I find that doctor who makes calls at 12:30 in the morning! All kidding aside, I echo what everybody else is saying: take your meds, listen to your body telling you you need rest, and enjoy some enforced time home with the family (silently, of course). Get well soon.

  • Hope you feel better soon Alfie.

  • Just make sure you are really well before you return this time, you have to look after that voice! xx

  • So sorry to hear you are not well, I went to see Les Mis last night and obviously was a little disappointed not to see you but Jonathan Willliams did not let you down. Please take great care of that wonderful voice and listen to your Doctor and friends. I now look forward to seeing you in Bristol on the 6th December. Also trying to book Les Mis again to see you in the role of Jean Vajean as the DVD of the 25th Concert is wearing out. The very best of luck and get well, really well, soon.

  • Attended the performance on Sat evening. Superb_ You and the cast gave me memories that will last me a lifetime. I was privileged to have experienced the performance. Thank you so much from 4 Cornish lads and lasses. Hope you make a speedy recovery

  • Stay the course – hard but necessary if you want to completely heal. Tons of support out here for you, so no apologies are needed.

  • Get well soon!! We all really hope you look after that beautiful voice. Hope to see you in August!! xxx

  • Alfie, you definitely need time to recover. Didn’t realize how physically strenuous your role as JVJ is until I saw you in LM twice last week. Had only seen the O2 on TV before and you only had 2 performances in one day, not 6 a week with 2 of those the same day for 5 months. Now the role is not only emotionally strenuous, but physically as well. It was hard to watch them shove you, knock you down, and then see you carry Marius like you did. Don’t know how you do it over and over again! I really worry you might get hurt, especially if you’re sick. Please take care of yourself when you do go back. You are so important to us. Bless ya’ ♥ x

  • Got all the way there today but discovered you were indisposed. Gutted but hoped you were alright. Rest, rest and rest again. Don’t do anything to spoil that beautiful voice. We’ll see you on 8th October instead when we hope you will be well. Take good care. XXX

  • Sending love and prayers for a speedy recovery, Alfie. Hope that only when your physician follows-up and says you are pharangitis free, will you resume your hectic schedule, but, please don’t rush it! You are much too important to all of us….see you in September! X

  • Lots of love and prayers to you for a speedy recovery! See you in September!

  • Hi Alfie
Warm salt water rinses (gargling) as often as you can stand it. Kills bacteria cells. You probably already know this, but just in case. God Bless you. Speedy recovery. Sounds like someone could use a long rest. Thinking of you. Kate xoxo

  • Dear Alfie,

We have all the time in the world….take great big mouthfuls, as much as YOU need to feel strong and whole again. We love you and we want you to be “all better!” first and foremost.

Is there a Boe family remedy for a sore throat? Ours is honey-water – boiling water and golden blossom clover honey. Or just the honey, for demulcent qualities.

    XOXO but not too close!

    Louisa Jo

  • Hi Alfie i do hope you are feeling a lot better. Please take care. Looking forward to seeing you in October in Les Mis and December in Nottingham. I do hope you got my card i sent it to the theatre. You can’t beat a HUG | with love Carole N. xx

  • Sorry to hear you were not well Alfie. Hope you over it now and feeling much better. Came over from Dublin to see you on Tuesday last. Was disappointed that you were not performing although Jonathan Williams did you proud. Was really hoping to see you perform live as I believe that your concert tour does not include Dublin. Oh well I live in hope. Take care, Steph x

  • Alfie, you have brought an immense amount of joy into the lives of so many! Get well, rest and take it easy so you can continue to sing for a nation that is proud of you! It is so rare to find such a talented person who is also so kind and humble and you deserve every success in life! We all totally adore you! xx

  • Dear Alfie: As a fellow tenor, please take care of that wonderful instrument with which the good Lord has blessed you. Feel better mate, and look forward to more of your vocal artistry.

  • Hi Alfie, We are so glad that you are feeling better, and we know you are as we came to see you last night and you were fabulous, the whole show was fabulous. Have seen it many times but this time was awesome. Looking forward to seeing your tour in Northampton.
Keep well and don’t over do it
    Thank you

  • Dear Alfie
Came to see Les Mis yesterday for the 6th time, brought three friends along as they didn’t understand why I keep going back to see the show. Well they now understand. You, Matt and the rest of the cast were absolutely fantastic. Still keep going over different scenes in my head. The way you sang ‘Bring him home’ will stay with me for a very long time. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
    Jacky
