Love Was a Dream re-release (Decca)
Love Was a Dream was originally released in 2009 and Alfie explained at the time why this recording was so enjoyable to make…
“I have to say that recording the album ‘Franz Lehar: Love was a Dream’ was the most enjoyable recording sessions I have ever been involved in.
The studio was the stage of The Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. Normally when recording the voice you get separated from the orchestra but in this case I had the opportunity to stand and record my vocal in the middle of the string section. In my opinion this creates a solid connection with the players and forms a unity of sound. Also having the live connection with your conductor makes a huge difference. There were moments in the sessions when I really picked up on the melody of the instruments surrounding me and began to really understand their contribution to the score.
The Orchestra of Scottish Opera were amazing, the control they had with the delicate musical structures and simplicity of sound, for the Lehar score, was perfection. I really hope we can work together again in the future.
The side of recording that the listener tends to forget is the sound engineer, and what a guy we had at the helm, this is person that brings it together in the studio. They have to be able to pick out the slightest mistake, or if something doesn’t sound quite right, they also need to have great musicianship.
I hope you all enjoy the album!”

I was introduced to Lehar’s music when Alfie appeared in the ENO production of “The Merry Widow.”. This brought back lovely memories of that visit and has introduced me to more of Lehar’s glorious music. Alfie’s voice is perfect for this style of song. I’m very glad Decca has decided to re-release it.
definitely getting this!
I will be at the store when they open on August 2nd! My Le Passione CD came today & I’ve listened to it non-stop. I can’t wait until I can get “Love Was a Dream” to add to my other Alfie CDs. His voice just “takes my breath away!”
I wanted to say a huge and heart felt thank you to Alfie, Matt and their fellow cast members for taking the time to meet my mum, Jeanette on Wednesday night. This was a magical and emotional night for us both and one that has given my mum a much needed and deserved boost. Than you so much x
After I saw Les Miz on PBS in March, I’ve become an Alfie fan.
I’ve bought everything I can get my hands on. I never dreamed
I’d like any kind of opera, buy Alfie’s voice is amazing.
Bought this previously – I love this repertoire and am so thrilled that Alfie has recorded it. His line and musical grace are in the highest class of interpreters of this repertoire. I plan to buy another copy for my father as a gift and another one for me – just for the new pictures! What an incredible and complete artist you are Mr. Boe, and becoming very beloved in the States, as well as the UK. Carry on!
I’ve become such a fan, that in my fury to order “Boe” music, I not only ordered (and got) one of the original recording AND pre-ordered the re-release. So, in the near future, I will have a house copy and a vehicle copy – can never have enough of that voice…
yay i’ve got it! very excited
I was doing out my cd cupboard and getting rid of those I don’t play. Now I’ve discovered Alfie! Oh dear, I can see it’s going to fill up again! Must send off for this one!
I am off tomorrow to buy it. That voice is amazing.
Can’t wait to listen to it, have pre-ordered it, so should get it by end of the week. I must say though that your voice gets better with each song you sing. God bless you. (((hugs)))
Good to see it went straight to #5 on Classic FM chart
Got it in the mail yesterday, its intensity caught me by surprise, but have not stopped listening to it since the mailman brought it to me. A great recording…
