Alfie Boe to publish his autobiography with Simon and Schuster UK

Simon and Schuster UK has acquired world rights to a deeply personal and inspiring memoir by opera, musical theatre and singing sensation Alfie Boe, Rory Scarfe, non-fiction Editor announced today. In a very competitive auction, the rights were acquired from Felicity Blunt at Curtis Brown. The book is scheduled for publication in autumn 2012.

The book, titled simply ‘Alfie’, will offer an intimate account of Alfie’s childhood, growing up as the youngest of nine children to a family in the north of England, being talent-spotted while working as a car mechanic, bringing his music to fans across the globe, playing Broadway, as well as the legendary Opera Houses, becoming Jean Valjean in Les Miserables whilst developing a hugely successful recording and touring career

Alfie Boe said “I first want to thank Simon and Schuster for giving me the opportunity to tell my story, both personal and professional. It’s an honour to be working with such a distinguished publisher and I look forward to our time together.

My book will give an insight into the crazy mind of Alfie Boe and how it all began from childhood days in Lancashire to my time in London, trying to make my way as a singer. It will talk of the people who inspired me and maybe touch a little bit on the harder times of my life. There’ll be a lot of laughter and also some gritty tales of which all have added to the wrinkles or laughter lines around my eyes”.

Wow! This is a great idea. He’s had to tell his story over and over again in interviews because so many people are interested in such a classic story line. A few interviewers have commented on the Cinderella or Billy Elliot aspects of his life. Nobody’s life is like a book when you are actually living it but still people love to see the connections. I think that such a warm, funny and hard-working individual had to come from a background that nurtured those qualities. It will be interesting to read and it is just further proof that he is on the verge of major stardom.
